Collaborate with Others in Google Drive

IMPORTANT! Before beginning this assignment, be sure you have reviewed instructional videos 5-9 in Google Drive Resources

About the assignment: You will be teaming with other person(s) in your class to complete this assignment, Your instructor will provide you with a list of these team assignments.

Purpose of the Assignment: Google Drive is a great reseource for working and collaborating with others. Normally, one team member would create a folder and share it with the other members. Then everyone in the group could share and edit documents in that folder with the other team members. In this assignment, however, each team member will share his./her folder with each of the other team members. Then each team member will access and edit each of the other team members' shared folders. This is not the way we'd normally do this in the real world, but this way each team member gets a chance to create and share a folder. The purpose of the assignment is to give you practice sharing and accessing Google shared folders.

The Process: This assignment is a four part process: 1). team members contact each other and exchange Google account information and ,each team member creates a folder and a document. 2) each memebr shares his/her folder with the other team members. and 3) each team member accesses the other team members folders and edits the specified document. 4. Each team member downloads the edited document (as a PDF) and submits in Blackboard.

PART 1

  1. Communicate with other team members and exchange Google account names. Your Google account name is what you use to login to Google with. It may be a gmail account or some other email account. Do not give out your password, only your Google account name. To contact your team members, select Email from the Blackboard course menu (on the left side of the screen in Blackboard) then click Single / Select Users and then find and select the members of your team.   One person can start the process by emailing  everyone on the team and then all team member can "Reply All".  Blackboard uses your Lamarpa.edu email addresses. The team assignments are attached to the assignment in Blackboard.
  2. In your Google Drive Course folder, you are to create a folder named Collaborate-yourname. Each team member should do this. Each team member next creates a Google Docs document named A Favorite Thing-your name in his/her own Collaborate-yourname folder. In this document, you should write a short paragraph describing a favorite thing you enjoyed. Examples can include a favorite play, book, song, musician, commercial, politician, actor, etc.

PART 2

Each team member then is to share his/her folder with his/her partner(s), allowing each of them to edit the contents of the folder. You should not create a shareable link for this (watch the instructional video first) Instead you will share directly using the other team members' Google account name. Note also you should not specifically share any documents-all documents in the folder will be shared when the folder is shared.

PART 3

Each team member should access each of the other partner'(s) Collaborate folder and add his/her name at the bottom of his/her A Favorite Thing document and make a one-paragraph comment or question at the end of the document. Be respectful in all your communication.

PART 4

Wait until after [the date specified by your instructor] and download the document A Favorite Thing-your name to your computer as a pdf document.  By waiting until after this date, you will have given you teammate(s) adequate time to have commented on your document.
